Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) Guide

Updated July 2026

Quick summary

DFW has five terminals (A, B, C, D, E) laid out in a semicircle and connected airside by the free 24/7 Skylink train — one of the world's fastest airport people movers. DART rail reaches downtown Dallas for $2.50, and TEXRail links downtown Fort Worth.

Terminals at DFW

DFW is arranged as five terminals — A, B, C, D and E — in a long semicircle straddling the airport's central spine. American Airlines, which uses DFW as its largest hub, operates from Terminals A, B and C, while Terminal D is the international terminal (though it also handles some domestic flights) and Terminal E hosts other domestic carriers. The free Skylink automated train runs airside above the terminals, circles all five, runs 24/7 with trains every couple of minutes, and lets you move between any terminals without leaving security — handy for the tight connections American schedules here. Landside, the free Terminal Link shuttle connects the terminals outside security (roughly every 10–15 minutes, about 5 AM–midnight) for anyone who has to re-enter, but for airside transfers Skylink is far faster. Because it's a hub-and-spoke design, allow buffer time if you land at one end (say Terminal A) and depart from the far end (Terminal E).

🚆 Getting to & from the airport

DART's Orange Line light rail connects Terminal A to downtown Dallas (Union Station) in about 45 minutes for a $2.50 fare, running roughly 5 AM–midnight weekdays. On the west side, Trinity Metro's TEXRail runs from Terminal B to downtown Fort Worth in about 50 minutes, also for $2.50. Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) and taxi pickup is on the upper (departures) level of each terminal in designated rideshare zones — take the elevator or escalator up from baggage claim rather than waiting at the arrivals curb. There's a free Cell Phone Waiting Lot for meeting arrivals, plus the free landside Terminal Link shuttle between terminals.

🛋️ Lounges

As American Airlines' fortress hub, DFW is loaded with Admirals Clubs across Terminals A, B, C, D and E, plus the premium Flagship Lounge for eligible international and first-class travelers in Terminal D. Terminal D, the international terminal, also holds the American Express Centurion Lounge near Gate D12 (about 13,000 sq ft with a nap area and showers, open roughly 5:30 AM–10 PM) and various international-carrier lounges. Because Skylink connects all terminals airside, you can usually reach a lounge in another terminal without re-clearing security — but confirm hours, since most clubs close around 10 PM.

📶 Wi-Fi

Free unlimited Wi-Fi is available throughout DFW — connect to the 'DFW Airport Free WiFi' network and accept the terms page. No time limit (AT&T-branded public networks are also available).

😴 Layovers & overnight

Skylink makes long layovers easy since you can roam all five terminals airside without re-clearing security. Terminal D has the best amenities — the widest dining, the Centurion Lounge, and the international crowd — while Terminals B, C and E have free relaxation zones with comfortable seating and charging. Minute Suites (private rest rooms/nap suites) are located in Terminals A and D, with shower facilities near Terminal D, which is the best bet for a real rest on an overnight. DFW is generally considered safe for overnighting and staff tolerate sleeping passengers; for a proper bed, the on-airport Grand Hyatt DFW (in Terminal D) and Hyatt Regency DFW are directly connected, and off-airport hotels run free shuttles.

Insider tips

  • Use Skylink (airside) not Terminal Link (landside) to change terminals on a connection — it's much faster and keeps you inside security.
  • DART Orange Line ($2.50) from Terminal A reaches downtown Dallas; TEXRail ($2.50) from Terminal B reaches downtown Fort Worth.
  • For rideshare or taxi, go up to the departures level of your terminal — pickups aren't at the arrivals curb.
  • Remote Parking (about $14/day) is the cheapest on-airport option for longer trips.
  • Terminal D has the Centurion Lounge, Minute Suites and showers — head there for a long or overnight layover.
