Dubai International Airport (DXB) Guide
Quick summary
DXB runs on three terminals, with Terminal 3 being the massive Emirates home base and one of the largest airport buildings in the world. The Dubai Metro Red Line links Terminals 1 and 3 straight into the city for just a few dirhams.
Terminals at DXB
Dubai International operates Terminals 1, 2, and 3. Terminal 3 is the Emirates (and flydubai long-haul) mega-hub, spanning Concourses A, B, and C — Concourse A is dedicated to Emirates A380 flights and is connected to the rest of T3 airside via an underground train. Terminal 1 (Concourse D) handles most other international carriers, and Terminal 3 and Terminal 1 are linked airside, so transit passengers can often move between them without re-clearing immigration. Terminal 2, on the opposite side of the airfield, is a separate building used mainly by flydubai and regional carriers and is not connected airside to the others — a transfer there means landside transport. Always confirm your terminal, since Emirates and flydubai passengers are usually in T3.

🚆 Getting to & from the airport
The Dubai Metro Red Line has stations at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 and runs to Downtown Dubai, the Marina, and Expo City; a single ride costs roughly AED 3–8.50 depending on zones using a NOL card, which you buy at any station. The Metro does not run overnight (roughly closes around midnight and reopens early morning), so late arrivals rely on taxis or rideshare. Official cream-colored RTA taxis queue outside each terminal with metered fares. Careem and Uber operate with designated airport pickup points. Public buses also serve all terminals.

🛋️ Lounges
Terminal 3 is stacked with Emirates Business and First Class Lounges spread across Concourses A, B, and C, several open 24 hours with showers and dedicated rest areas. The Marhaba Lounges (in multiple terminals) are the main pay-at-the-door option, running around AED 220 per adult, and the Ahlan Lounges in T3 are popular walk-in and Priority Pass choices. The Dubai International Hotel lounges and various contract lounges also accept Priority Pass. Because T1 and T3 are connected airside, transit passengers have a wide choice, but T2 lounge options are limited.
📶 Wi-Fi
Free unlimited Wi-Fi is available across DXB — connect to the 'DXB Free WiFi' network, no registration needed.
😴 Layovers & overnight
DXB is open 24 hours and is well set up for long layovers. Terminal 3 has 'sleep 'n fly' sleep pods and cabins bookable by the hour with privacy screens, USB charging, and Wi-Fi, plus quiet rest zones. The Dubai International Hotel has airside rooms in Terminals 1 and 3 (including a G-Force health club, pool, and spa) so you never leave security. There's abundant 24-hour dining, showers, and shopping. For a longer stopover, the Metro from T1/T3 makes a quick city visit feasible — but factor in the overnight Metro closure when planning your return to the airport.
Insider tips
- Emirates and flydubai long-haul flights are almost always in Terminal 3 — don't head to T1 or T2 by mistake.
- Buy a NOL card at the Metro station; the Red Line into the city is a fraction of a taxi fare.
- The Metro shuts overnight, so budget for a taxi if you land in the small hours.
- For long layovers, book a 'sleep 'n fly' pod or a Dubai International Hotel airside room in advance.
- T2 is a separate building across the airfield — transferring there requires landside transport.
