Incheon International Airport (ICN) Guide

Updated July 2026

Quick summary

Incheon is Seoul's main international gateway, split across Terminal 1 and the newer Terminal 2, connected by a free shuttle bus. The AREX airport railroad runs both an Express and an all-stop line to Seoul Station, and the airport is regularly ranked among the world's best.

Terminals at ICN

Incheon has two passenger terminals about 15 km apart. Terminal 1 is the original hub used by Asiana, most foreign carriers and low-cost airlines, while Terminal 2 (opened 2018) serves Korean Air and its SkyTeam partners including Delta, Air France and KLM. Always confirm your terminal before arriving, as they are not walkable from each other. A free shuttle bus runs between them roughly every 5-12 minutes, taking about 15-20 minutes, boarding at the 3rd-floor departures level (near Exit 8 at T1 and between Exits 6-7 at T2). The AREX airport railroad and airport buses also stop at both terminals. Each terminal has its own airside transit area, so allow a comfortable buffer - at least 2-3 hours - if your itinerary makes you switch terminals between flights.

🚆 Getting to & from the airport

The AREX (Airport Railroad Express) is the fastest fixed-price link to central Seoul. The nonstop Express train runs to Seoul Station in about 43 minutes from Terminal 1 (about 51 from Terminal 2) for roughly ₩13,000, with reserved seats and in-town check-in for some airlines. The cheaper All-Stop (Commuter) train costs around ₩4,000-5,000, makes local stops and connects into the Seoul subway network. Airport Limousine buses run to hotels and districts across Seoul (about ₩10,000-18,000). Taxis to central Seoul run roughly ₩60,000-90,000 and take 60-70 minutes depending on traffic; standard (orange/silver) and 'deluxe' black taxis both queue outside arrivals. Ride-hailing via Kakao T is widely used, and the KTX high-speed rail also serves the airport station for travel beyond Seoul.

🛋️ Lounges

Incheon has a large lounge lineup across both terminals. Korean Air's Prestige and First Class Lounges anchor Terminal 2, and Asiana's lounges plus various airline lounges serve Terminal 1. The Matina Lounges (near gates 11 and 43 in T1, and in T2) are the main independent lounges, open to Priority Pass, eligible credit cards and pay-in guests, with hot meals, showers and a 3-hour stay limit. Plaza Premium, SKYHUB and airline-branded lounges round out the options, many offering shower suites and Korean food.

📶 Wi-Fi

Free unlimited Wi-Fi is available throughout both terminals - connect to the airport network and you're online with no time limit; staffed help desks can assist if you have trouble.

😴 Layovers & overnight

Incheon is built for long layovers. Airside you'll find free cultural experiences at the Korean Traditional Cultural Center, gardens, a music garden, an ice rink (seasonal), a museum of Korean culture, and free 'Transit Tour' city excursions for eligible passengers with several hours to spare. There are free 24-hour rest zones, nap areas, showers and relaxation lounges. For real sleep, the airside Incheon Airport Transit Hotels in T1 and T2 rent rooms in 6-hour blocks (from about ₩70,000) as well as full nights; there are also landside capsule-style options. Spa on Air (T1) offers jjimjilbang-style bathing, sleeping rooms and showers for a fee.

Insider tips

  • Double-check whether you fly from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 before leaving home - they are 15 km apart and only linked by a free ~20-minute shuttle bus.
  • The AREX Express is fastest to Seoul Station, but the All-Stop train is a fraction of the price if you're not in a hurry.
  • Buy or reload a T-money card to tap through the All-Stop train and Seoul's subway and buses seamlessly.
  • For a 5+ hour layover, sign up for a free Incheon Transit Tour at the desk near the arrivals area to see Seoul or nearby sights.
  • Use the airside transit hotels (bookable in 6-hour blocks) if you need genuine sleep between flights.
