Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) Guide

Updated July 2026

Quick summary

The world's busiest airport is actually easy to navigate: one Domestic Terminal, one International Terminal, and seven concourses (T, A, B, C, D, E, F) all linked airside by the free Plane Train. The cheapest way downtown is MARTA rail for $2.50 straight from the Domestic Terminal.

Terminals at ATL

ATL is built around a single central passenger complex with two landside entrances β€” the Domestic Terminal (North and South) on the west end, and the Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal (Concourse F) on the east end. Between them run seven parallel concourses: T (Terminal), A, B, C, D, E, and F. The free automated Plane Train runs underground beneath the concourses and connects everything airside, so once you clear security you can reach any gate without leaving the secure area β€” a huge advantage for connections. International arrivals clear customs at Concourse F, but departing international passengers can check in at either terminal and ride the Plane Train to F. The Domestic Terminal handles the bulk of Delta's operation and is where MARTA rail, most parking, and rideshare pickup are located. Allow extra time if you land at the International Terminal and need to reach MARTA, since that requires the Plane Train or a shuttle over to the Domestic side.

πŸš† Getting to & from the airport

MARTA rail is the standout option: the Airport station sits inside the Domestic Terminal between North and South baggage claim, and the Red or Gold Line reaches Five Points in downtown Atlanta in about 15 minutes for a $2.50 one-way fare (on a reloadable Breeze Card). Taxis and rideshare (Uber/Lyft) pick up from designated areas at the Domestic Terminal β€” follow signs from baggage claim; the International Terminal has its own curbside pickup. There's a free Cell Phone Waiting Lot for people meeting arriving passengers. If you land at the International Terminal and want MARTA, take the Plane Train or the ATL SkyTrain/shuttle over to the Domestic Terminal, which adds time.

πŸ›‹οΈ Lounges

As Delta's largest hub, ATL is packed with Delta Sky Clubs spread across Concourses A, B, C, D, E, and F β€” including the flagship Delta Sky Club on Concourse B with its outdoor Sky Deck. The American Express Centurion Lounge is on Concourse E near Gate E11 (open roughly 6:00 AM–11:00 PM), convenient for international and premium travelers. Because all concourses connect airside via the Plane Train, you can generally reach a lounge on another concourse without re-clearing security. Priority Pass options are limited compared with Delta's own clubs, so check your card's access before relying on it.

πŸ“Ά Wi-Fi

Free unlimited Wi-Fi is available throughout ATL β€” connect to the 'ATL Free Wi-Fi' network and accept the terms page. No password or time limit.

😴 Layovers & overnight

Since every concourse is connected airside by the Plane Train, a long layover at ATL is comfortable β€” you can roam the whole airport without re-clearing security. Concourse B (Delta Sky Club with a Sky Deck) and the International Concourse F have the best food and amenities. The lounges close in the late evening and there are no dedicated sleep zones, so for an overnight the on-site options are the Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway and other hotels a short shuttle ride away; the landside atrium between the Domestic Terminal's North and South sides is where overnighters tend to settle. Note that if you leave the secure area overnight you'll re-clear TSA in the morning.

Insider tips

  • Take MARTA rail ($2.50) instead of a taxi β€” the station is inside the Domestic Terminal and reaches downtown in about 15 minutes.
  • The Plane Train connects all concourses airside, so you never need to leave security to change gates on a connection.
  • For international connections, you can often check in at the Domestic Terminal and ride the Plane Train to Concourse F.
  • Use the Economy/Park-Ride lot (about $20/day) for longer trips instead of the close-in hourly decks.
  • Concourse B's Delta Sky Club has an outdoor Sky Deck β€” a nice break on a long layover.

ATL airport β€” FAQ

How much is parking at ATL?

Close-in hourly decks run about $10 for the first hour with a daily max around $50 (then about $75 for each additional day). The covered Daily Deck is about $30 per day, and Economy/Park-Ride lots are about $20 per day. The Cell Phone Waiting Lot is free.

How do I get from ATL to downtown Atlanta?

Take MARTA rail from the Airport station inside the Domestic Terminal. The Red or Gold Line reaches Five Points downtown in about 15 minutes for a $2.50 one-way fare. Taxis and rideshare are also available but cost far more.

How do I get between terminals and concourses at ATL?

Use the free Plane Train, which runs underground and connects the Domestic Terminal, all concourses (T, A, B, C, D, E), and the International Terminal (Concourse F) airside. You stay inside security the whole way.

Is Wi-Fi free at ATL?

Yes. Connect to 'ATL Free Wi-Fi' and accept the terms. It's free, unlimited, and has no time limit.

Can I sleep in the airport during an overnight layover at ATL?

Airside amenities are good but lounges close in the evening and there are no dedicated sleep zones, so most overnighters settle in the landside atrium. For a real bed, the on-site Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway and nearby shuttle hotels are the best options.
