Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) Guide
Quick summary
Changi is consistently rated one of the world's best airports, with four terminals (T1-T4) plus the Jewel nature-and-retail complex. An airside Skytrain links T1-T3, and transfers are smooth and mostly airside.
Terminals at SIN
Changi has four passenger terminals. Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are connected airside and landside, and a free automated Skytrain shuttles passengers between them in a few minutes; landside travelators and link bridges also connect them on foot. Terminal 4 sits apart and is served by a free 24-hour shuttle bus (roughly a 10-minute ride) to and from T2. Jewel Changi Airport, the glass dome famous for its 40-metre indoor waterfall (the Rain Vortex) and the Shiseido Forest Valley, is attached to Terminal 1 and connected by link bridges to T2 and T3 on the landside. Most transit passengers never need to clear immigration: airside connections between T1, T2 and T3 mean you can move between gates without re-entering the country, though a T4 transfer requires the shuttle. Allow extra time (at least 1.5-2 hours) for any connection that involves Terminal 4.

π Getting to & from the airport
The MRT (metro) is the cheapest way into the city: Changi Airport station sits under Terminals 2 and 3 on a short spur of the East-West (green) Line. Take it two stops to Tanah Merah and change to a city-bound train; a ride to City Hall runs about S$2.50 and takes roughly 40 minutes. Taxis are metered and cost around S$20-40 to the city centre depending on time of day (airport and late-night surcharges apply), taking 20-30 minutes. Ride-hailing (Grab, Gojek) is available with designated pick-up points at each terminal. Airport shuttle vans and public buses also serve the city, and premium limousine transfers can be booked at the terminals.

ποΈ Lounges
Singapore Airlines operates its flagship SilverKris Lounges and The Private Room in Terminal 3 (plus a SilverKris Lounge in T2) for its premium and Star Alliance Gold passengers. SATS Premier Lounges in T1, T2 and T3 sell walk-in access and accept many pay-per-use bookings. Plaza Premium Lounges and the Marhaba Lounge serve Priority Pass and pay-in guests across the terminals, and Terminal 4 has its own Blossom and dnata lounges. Many lounges offer showers, hot meals and rest areas.
πΆ Wi-Fi
Free unlimited Wi-Fi is available throughout all terminals via the 'WiFi@Changi' network. Just connect and register; kiosks can issue a login code if needed, and there is no strict time cap for most users.
π΄ Layovers & overnight
Changi is arguably the best layover airport in the world, so a long wait is a bonus rather than a chore. Head to Jewel (landside) for the Rain Vortex waterfall, the Canopy Park hedge maze and Sky Nets, and dozens of restaurants. Airside you'll find free gardens including the Butterfly Garden and Sunflower Garden, a free 24-hour movie theatre, gaming zones, and a rooftop swimming pool and jacuzzi at the Aerotel transit hotel in T1 (small fee). For sleep, book YOTELAIR in Jewel (landside, between T1 and T2) or the Aerotel airside transit hotels, both bookable in short blocks. Free rest areas, snooze lounges and shower facilities are scattered throughout. If you have 5+ hours, the airport's free Singapore city tour is worth checking.
Insider tips
- Use the free Skytrain between T1-T3; only Terminal 4 needs the separate shuttle bus, so leave extra time for T4 connections.
- Buy a contactless bank card or use SimplyGo on your phone to tap straight through MRT gates - no need for a separate ticket.
- Jewel is landside, so factor in re-clearing security if you leave the transit area to visit it before a connecting flight.
- The rooftop pool at the Aerotel transit hotel (T1) is open to non-guests for a small fee - great for a long layover.
- If you have 5+ hours between flights, sign up for Changi's free guided Singapore city tour at the transit desk.
SIN airport β FAQ
How do I get from Changi to Singapore city center?
The MRT is cheapest: board at Changi Airport station under T2/T3, change at Tanah Merah, and ride the East-West Line into town (about S$2.50 and ~40 minutes to City Hall). Taxis run roughly S$20-40 and take 20-30 minutes, and Grab ride-hailing is available at every terminal.
How much is parking at Changi?
Short-term parking is about S$0.65 per 15-minute block (roughly S$2.60/hour), working out to around S$57-58 for a full 24 hours. Long-stay 'Park & Fly' packages start near S$42/day and get cheaper the longer you stay. Drop-off and pick-up are free for the first 10 minutes.
How do I get between terminals at Changi?
A free automated Skytrain and landside link bridges connect Terminals 1, 2 and 3 in just a few minutes. Terminal 4 is separate and served by a free 24-hour shuttle bus to and from Terminal 2, so allow extra time for any T4 connection.
Is Wi-Fi free at Changi?
Yes. Free unlimited Wi-Fi is available across all terminals via the 'WiFi@Changi' network - just connect and register, or grab a login code from a kiosk if prompted.
What is there to do during a long layover at Changi?
Plenty. Visit Jewel's Rain Vortex waterfall and Canopy Park, relax in the free airside gardens, catch a film at the free 24-hour movie theatre, or swim at the Aerotel rooftop pool. For sleep, YOTELAIR (in Jewel) and the airside Aerotel transit hotels rent rooms by the hour.
