Hamad International Airport (DOH) Guide
Quick summary
Qatar Airways' award-winning home hub and one of the world's great transit airports, built as a single vast terminal with concourses A to E. It is famous for The Orchard indoor tropical garden, standout lounges and an onsite hotel, and the Doha Metro Red Line runs straight from the airport into the city.
Terminals at DOH
Hamad International is a single, enormous terminal building rather than a cluster of separate terminals, with all gates reached from five concourses labelled A through E. Concourses A, B and C sit closest to the central check-in and immigration hall, while D and E stretch further out and were extended in the Phase B expansion β so if you are connecting between a near and a far concourse, allow time to walk the long air-bridged corridors (there are travelators throughout, and buggies for those who need them). The centrepiece is The Orchard, a lush indoor garden with hundreds of trees and thousands of plants at the heart of the airside area, surrounded by shops, restaurants and rest zones. Because everything is under one roof and fully airside-connected, transiting between international flights never requires leaving the secure area.

π Getting to & from the airport
The Doha Metro Red Line has its own station connected to the airport and is the cheapest, fastest way into the city, reaching central Doha and interchanges in around 15-20 minutes; a Standard Travel Card costs about QAR 10 with top-up rides at roughly QAR 2 each. Metered taxis (Karwa) and app-based rides wait at the arrivals level, and a trip to the West Bay / city-centre hotels typically runs around QAR 50-70 depending on distance and traffic. Karwa and hotel shuttles are also available. For most travellers arriving with light luggage the Metro is unbeatable on price, while a taxi or private transfer is the simplest door-to-door choice with bags.

ποΈ Lounges
Doha is a lounge destination in its own right. Qatar Airways' flagship Al Mourjan Business Lounge β including the huge Garden mezzanine level with a spa, gym, private dining and family rooms β serves Business Class and Oneworld premium passengers, and the First and premium Oryx-brand lounges cater to top-tier flyers. For pay-in and Priority Pass or card-benefit access, the Al Maha Lounge (formerly the Oryx Lounge, rebranded in 2025) is the main option, offering buffets, showers, business and family rooms and free Wi-Fi. Between them the airport covers everything from premium-cabin flagship service to walk-up lounge access.
πΆ Wi-Fi
Free high-speed unlimited Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal with no time limit, alongside abundant charging points at seating areas.
π΄ Layovers & overnight
Hamad is one of the best airports in the world for a long or overnight layover. The Oryx Airport Hotel sits inside the terminal for day-use or overnight rooms without clearing immigration, and airside quiet zones, reclining seats, showers (in lounges and pay-in facilities), a swimming pool and gym make waiting comfortable. Food and shopping run around the clock near The Orchard. If your layover is long enough, Discover Qatar runs transit city tours (and stopover packages) so you can leave the airport and see Doha, and short transit visas are straightforward for many nationalities. The single-terminal, all-airside layout means connections stay simple even in the middle of the night.
Insider tips
- On a long layover, book a Discover Qatar transit tour or a stopover package to see Doha instead of waiting at the gate.
- Take the Doha Metro Red Line into the city β about QAR 10 for a travel card and roughly 15-20 minutes to the centre.
- Don't have lounge access through your airline? Buy in at the Al Maha Lounge, which also takes Priority Pass.
- For overnight waits, the Oryx Airport Hotel is inside the terminal so you never have to clear immigration.
- Pre-book parking on the official site to save about 20% versus drive-up rates if you are leaving a car.
